Villarceaux / Bray-et-Lu

[ Cycle routes The Avenue Verte London <> Paris ] [ The Vexin Area and the Epte Valley ]
  • 5.5 km
  • intermediaire Level Intermediate

This is a very short stage, enabling you to get off the greenway along the Epte Valley (linking Gisors and Gasny) at the village of Bray-et-Lû to head over to Villarceaux. While the official route of the Avenue Verte turns east at Bray-et-Lû, an extra, unofficial stage offers you the enticing additional option of heading down to Giverny, a place of exceptional importance in the history of Impressionism, as Monet settled here to paint, creating his fabulous garden with lily ponds. Also press on to the banks of the Seine around the town of Vernon. Savour the beautiful villages around here and the unique atmosphere of the wonderful area

Itinerary

A greenway links Bray-et-Lû and Gasny via a disused railway line. Little roads then lead you to Giverny. Another greenway connects Giverny to Vernon and the Vernonnet area. However, be aware that the D 5 road from Gasny to Giverny is not considered suitable for cyclists. Bear in mind that it's easy to join or finsih the Avenue Verte route here, simply by taking a train between Paris and Vernon, or vice versa – Vernon has very good rail links with the capital.
